Celebrate Scouting with the Boy Scouts of America and the United States Postal Service!
In 2010, the year of our 100th Anniversary, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) will receive an incredible honor from the United States Postal Service (USPS) in the form of a "Celebrate Scouting" stamp. A tribute to the impact of a century of Scouting on the American landscape, the stamp will become widely available during the summer of 2010.
Since 1910, Scouting has served young people and their families through a program of values-based leadership and character. Continuing the BSA’s long tradition of service and good turns, we will bring deeper purpose to the Celebrate Scouting stamp this holiday season by sending letters and care packages to the military men and women serving our country overseas. Also included in this effort are the many veterans who have honorably served our country throughout the years. You are invited to join us in this effort!
In fact, we are pleased to report the Northern Lights Council has already sent ‘popcorn’ care packages to the military men and women serving our country overseas. We partnered with Trail’s End Popcorn, Support Our Military Troops Program that gave our consumers the chance to donate $25 or $40 in addition to their regular popcorn purchase. Trail’s End shipped more than $55,000 worth of popcorn products from our Boy Scout Council directly to active duty troops and their families. The Scouts wanted to ‘do a good turn’ and help support those who are sacrificing so much to keep us safe.
Scouters and volunteers — or anyone who’d like to join our effort — you are invited to explore the many resources available to you by visiting the 100 Years of Scouting Web site, we have a wide array of tools and information to help you develop a thoughtful letter or care package that reminds our troops how much we appreciate and value their service. You can also visit the USPS Web site, where you will find important guidelines and information for keeping in touch with our troops overseas.
You CAN make a difference! Send a note or care package today and thank our veterans and the men and women of the military for their service to this great Country. Let us know -we want to hear from you!
